COVID-19 & THE HEART
If you get Covid-19 you can die within 3 days. Do not ignore dyspnea (shortness of breath) and fever.
Do not postpone your follow up visits with your doctor without consulting him/her.
20-25% of those who contract Covid-19 will develop myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle), although it is not usually the cause of death. Do not ignore tachycardia (fast heart rate).
Covid-19 infection involves AT2 receptor. This is a receptor that increases when using specific medication namely ARBs (Angiotensin Receptor Blockers). Do not stop taking your ARBs as there is no solid indication that it will increase the risk of contracting Covid-19.
Thrombosis is a risk factor of Covid-19 so if you are taking blood-thinning medicine ensure that you continue this medicine as prescribed.
Obtain from visiting the elderly (even if it is your family) especially if you are not feeling well.
Never ignore a burning, pressings chest discomfort. Do not wait to seek attention if this occurs at night. Most heart attacks happen during the resting phase early in the morning.
To conclude – Get up and get dressed even if you are not going to work. Take care of yourself.
Try to avoid the “rat-race”.
